Bio:
Three-year starter who earned First Team All-IIAC honors in each of those seasons. Named IIAC Defensive Player of the Year and led the conference with eight interceptions while adding 56 tackles and eight pass breakups in 2017 to earn an invitation to the Senior Bowl. Led Dubuque with four interception and eight PBUs and made 68 tackles (four for loss) in 2016. Tied for the team lead with three INTs and recorded 42 tackles and four pass breakups as a sophomore.
Pos:
Small-school cornerback with tremendous ball skills. Athletic but physical and hard-hitting. Fluid in transition, stays on the receiver’s hip out of breaks and possesses excellent hands for the interception. Physical, mixes it up with opponents and plays with suddenness. Tracks the pass in the air with the action in front of him, shows good route recognition and consistently positions himself to make plays on the ball. Shows the ability to explode to the action out of his plant, plays faster than his 40 time and uses his hands to protect himself.
Neg:
Slow out of his transition to turn and run with opponents and prefers to side shuffle rather than backpedal. Long speed is a concern. Not a strong wrap-up tackler.
Analysis:
Joseph was a very productive small-school corner who possesses next-level size, ball skills and instincts. He may need time to get acclimated to the step up in competition but should help a team in dime packages as a rookie in the league.
