Bio:
Three-year starter who earned Second Team All-Big Ten honors and led Penn State with 57 receptions, tied for the team lead with nine receiving touchdowns and posted 563 yards in the air in 2017. Named Honorable Mention All-Big Ten and caught 48 passes for 679 yards and five TDs as a junior. Started eight games and made 13 catches for 125 yards and one score in 2015. Posted 11 receptions for 114 yards as a true freshman.
Pos:
Massive tight end prospect with outstanding pass-catching skills. Presents himself as an imposing target, adjusts and contorts to errant throws and makes a lot of acrobatic receptions. Easily gets vertical over defenders, displays a sense of timing and looks the ball into his hands. Resilient, makes tough catches in a crowd and takes a pounding but holds onto passes. Extends his hands and consistently snatches passes away from his frame. Stays square as a blocker, shows strength at the point and turns defenders from the action. Plays smart football, picks up blocking assignments and knows where he is on the field as a pass catcher.
Neg:
One-speed tight end who lacks burst. Takes a while to get going. Not an explosive or quick athlete.
Analysis:
Gesicki is a tremendous pass-catching tight end whose size and ability to get vertical creates incredible mismatches. He’s not a true seam stretcher but has all the makings of an awesome third-down or red-zone target at the next level.
