Bio:
First-year starter who earned unanimous First Team All-America honors and made 61 tackles (14.5 for loss) with five sacks as a senior. Posted 33 tackles (11.5 for loss) and 4.5 sacks in 2016. Made 35 tackles (6.5 for loss) with three sacks as a sophomore.
Pos:
Hard-working, explosive defensive tackle prospect who has shown consistent progress. Plays with tremendous quickness, explodes off the snap and often looks like he was fired out of a cannon. Rarely off his feet, comes off the snap with superb leverage and pad level and works his hands throughout the action. Knocks blockers back with explosive hand punch and keeps his feet moving. Bull rushes opponents off the line and creates penetration. Displays good change of direction with the ability to immediately alter his angle of attack. Shows good overall movement skills. Attracts double-team blocks in the middle of the line but holds his ground. Fiery, competitive and works through the whistle.
Neg:
Lacks great bulk and size. Can be easily locked up in blocks if he does not get the first step on opponents. Not a truly overpowering lineman.
Analysis:
Hurst had a tremendous career at Michigan and moves towards the draft as the best three-technique tackle available. He’s a playmaker with the versatility to line up in a three or four-man front, and Hurst should have a lot of success at the next level.
