Bio:
Two-year starter who caught 28 passes for 384 yards and two touchdowns as a senior. Made 19 receptions for 284 yards and three TDs in four games before suffering a season-ending foot injury and earning a medical redshirt in 2016. Led the Hawkeyes with 65 receptions and 703 receiving yards as a junior and caught four touchdowns. Combined to make three starts during his first two seasons and caught 22 passes for 315 yards and one TD.
Pos:
Solid college receiver who has struggled with injuries since 2016. Smart, finds the open spot in the defense and displays terrific hand-eye coordination. Makes difficult over-the-shoulder receptions downfield, looks the ball into his hands and possesses outstanding focus and concentration. Nicely adjusts to errant throws and displays soft hands. Gives effort blocking.
Neg:
Possesses average size and speed. Production significantly fell off due to injuries after a tremendous campaign in 2015.
Analysis:
At one time, VandeBerg showed all the ability necessary to line up as a slot receiver or fifth wideout at the next level, but he’s watched his game regress the past two seasons. If he passes medicals and gets his game back to prior form, he will be an intriguing prospect this summer.
