Bio:
Two-year starter who led the Seminoles with 85 tackles (10 for loss) and added two sacks and one interception in 2017. Named Honorable Mention All-ACC as a junior after making a team-high 77 tackles (11 for loss) with one sack, one forced fumble and two pass breakups. Missed the entire 2015 season due to a shoulder injury. Started three games as a sophomore and made 26 tackles (2.5 sacks).
Pos:
Undersized but athletic linebacker who makes plays sideline to sideline. Instinctive against the run, quickly snuffs out the ball carrier and shows terrific speed in pursuit of the action. Takes proper angles, plays with an aggressive attitude and flows well laterally. Breaks down well and effectively uses his hands. Explodes up the field and attacks ball carriers. Throws his body around the action to make plays.
Neg:
Marginal instincts in coverage. Lacks size, struggles getting off blocks and gets lost in the trash.
Analysis:
Thomas has the size and speed to be a one-gap defender but must improve his play in coverage to have a chance at the next level.
