Two-year starter who earned Second Team All-ACC honors in 2016, ranking third in the conference and second among running backs with 1,166 rushing yards on 249 carries and adding 10 touchdowns. Led the nation with 12 rushing touchdowns through eight games as a junior before suffering a season-ending toe injury. Was one of three FBS players to rack up 300 yards rushing, receiving and returning in 2014 and was the only player to also score five or more touchdowns on the ground and through the air.
Versatile running back who produced as a ball carrier and pass catcher. Patient, waits for blocks to develop and finds the running lanes. Has a burst through the hole, loses little momentum changing direction and effectively uses blocks all over the field. Quick-footed, bounces around piles and defenders and gets to the outside to create yardage. Tough and resilient and works runs. Puts his shoulders down, runs through defenders and occasionally breaks tackles. Sets up defenders, makes them miss and strings several moves together over the course of a run. Terrific pass catcher extending his hands and making the reception away from his frame. Adjusts to the errant throw and catches the ball in stride then turns it upfield. Always works to pick up positive yardage.
Has average size, lacks true power and isn’t a back that’s going to pick up much yardage off initial contact. Will struggle handling the load at the next level.
Dayes was very productive at North Carolina State the past three seasons and is a solid final-day selection who will produce at the next level as a situational runner and third-down back.
