Two-year starter who went from receiving Freshman All-American consideration in 2015 to earning All-American recognition in 2016. Two-year starter who played all 29 games of his career with the first unit. Made 36 tackles (three for loss) with two interceptions and five pass breakups as a sophomore. Had 45 tackles (3.5 for loss), three interceptions, two forced fumbles and eight PBUs as a redshirt freshman in 2015.
Instinctive and athletic cornerback with a large upside. Fluid transitioning off the line, does not lose a step turning to run downfield and mixes it up with receivers. Big, strong and beats down opponents to defend the pass. Quick up the field, defeats blocks and makes plays against the run or on screen passes. Displays good recognition in zone coverage, picks up assignments and has an explosive closing burst of speed. Shows a degree of suddenness in his game, stays on the receiver’s hip out of breaks and possesses a nice move to the throw.
Gets lazy backpedaling and at times size shuffles down the field which hurts his ability to quickly get to the ball. Deep speed may be a concern.
Humphrey is a big, strong cornerback with starting potential at the next level once he smoothes out the rough edges of his game.
