Bio:
One-year starter who rushed 56 times for 428 yards and three touchdowns in four games as a junior before suffering a season-ending ankle injury. Started all 13 games and earned Third Team All-ACC honors after rushing for 1,117 yards and 14 touchdowns on 209 carries and catching 27 passes for 240 yards and one score in 2016. Played in all 13 games as a true freshman and rushed 130 times for 461 yards and nine touchdowns while making 22 receptions for 293 yards and one TD.
Pos:
Quick, agile ball carrier with the ability to create yardage. Patient, waits for blocks to develop and plays with outstanding vision. Runs with good lean, quickly cuts back against the grain and shows burst through the hole. Effectively uses blocks everywhere on the field, makes defenders miss and strings together multiple moves over the course of a single run. Resilient, keeps his feet moving and picks up yardage off initial contact. Solid pass catcher out of the backfield.
Neg:
Runs too much east and west rather than taking it up the field. Not a big-bodied or powerful ball carrier. Coming off a serious ankle injury.
Analysis:
After a tremendous sophomore campaign, Walton had his junior year cut short by an ankle injury after just four games. When healthy and hitting on all cylinders, he nicely projects as a third-down back who can be used as a ball carrier and pass catcher out of the backfield, but the long-term health of his ankle will determine his next-level future.
