Three-year starter limited to nine games in 2016 due to a season-ending shoulder injury. Made 50 tackles with one interception and six pass breakups. Posted 82 tackles, two interceptions and six pass breakups as a junior in 2015 while ranking second in the nation with five forced fumbles. Started nine games between safety and nickel back as a sophomore with 62 tackles, two forced fumbles, one interception and five PBUs.
Underrated safety with a complete game. Plays smart, tough football and is explosive and instinctive. Quick locating the ball handler, keeps the action in front of him and immediately recognizes assignments. Fast up the field defending the run, displays good range and the ability to get outside the numbers to the flanks to make plays. Works well with cornerbacks, shows a terrific burst to the ball out of his plant and plays faster than his 40 time. Takes proper angles, has a nice move to the throw and is opportunistic. Forceful run defender that wraps up ball handlers.
Average long speed. Struggles tracking the pass in the air on occasion. Must improve his backpedal.
Maye often gets lost in the shuffle when speaking about the talented defensive secondary at Florida, but he’s a legitimate next-level starter with possibilities in a variety of schemes.
