Bio:
Three-year starter who was named Big 12 Co-Defensive Player of the Year and led Texas with 110 tackles and 10 tackles for loss while matching the team lead with four sacks as a junior. Posted 62 tackles (8.5 for loss), 5.5 sacks, one forced fumble and three pass breakups in 2016. Named Big 12 Defensive Freshman of the Year and recorded 61 tackles (seven for loss), 2.5 sacks, one forced fumble and three PBUs.
Pos:
Forceful run-defending linebacker with an underrated game. Physical, explosive hitter who attacks ball carriers and jars the ball loose. Breaks down well, displays good change of direction and covers a lot of area on the field. Explosive, quickly gets out to the flanks in pursuit and shows speed laterally. Forceful up the field and sells out on the blitz.
Neg:
Inefficient and does not always take proper angles to the action. Gets slowed up in the trash and needs a free angle to the action. Not fluid in reverse and marginally effective in coverage.
Analysis:
Jefferson is a hard-charging linebacker with the potential to grow into a three-down defender. He offers possibilities on the inside of a 3-4 alignment or at middle linebacker in a conventional defense and could start at the next level once he improves his ball skills.
