Bio:
Four-year starter who was named Honorable Mention All-Pac-12 in 2016 and 2017. Made 16 tackles (3.5 for loss) with 1.5 sacks as a senior. Posted 28 tackles (8.5 for loss) and 3.5 sacks as a junior. Earned First Team All-Pac-12 honors and recorded 26 tackles (five for loss) with one sack and one forced fumble in 2015. Named Honorable Mention All-Pac-12 and started the final games of his true freshman season, making 33 tackles (4.5 for loss) with four sacks and one forced fumble.
Pos:
Explosive gap-occupying tackle who comes off a disappointing season. Fires off the snap with a terrific first step, plays with proper pad level and flashes power in his lower body. Plays with a nasty attitude, attacks opponents and bull rushes blockers off the line and into the backfield. Attracts double-team blocks in the middle of the line but holds his ground and allows teammates to make plays on the ball.
Neg:
Small-area defender and isn’t effective outside the box. Must develop more moves to shed blocks, as he’s constantly tied up at the point. Marginal pass rusher with minimal production.
Analysis:
Lotulelei entered the season stamped as a potential third-round choice but played uninspired football and now grades as a last-day selection. He possesses the size, power and fundamentals to line up as a zero-technique tackle but must quickly elevate his game to meet the expectations of scouts.
