Tied for the team lead with five sacks and posted 44 tackles (six for loss) and two forced fumbles as a junior. Started two games and made 19 tackles with two forced fumbles in 2015. Made five starts as a true freshman and recorded 44 tackles (seven for loss) and 4.5 sacks.
Pos:
Incredibly athletic and forceful linebacker with an underrated game. Instinctive, effectively reads the action and does not have mental breakdowns or misjudgments on the field. Moves well laterally and displays good change of direction and terrific quickness to get to the play. Gets depth on pass drops, effectively uses his hands to protect himself and consistently makes plays in space. Forceful up the field, disrupts the action and immediately alters his angle of attack. Fast enough to catch ball carriers in backside pursuit. Fierce and flies around the action but plays within himself and stays with assignments.
Neg:
Has more built-up speed and takes a while to get going. Has a tall, thin build and average strength at the point of attack. Past injury history has been red-flagged by number of teams.
Analysis:
Carter has been a productive football player in all areas of the game and is an athletic prospect with big upside. Underrated in many areas of the scouting community, Carter offers starting potential as a 3-4 outside linebacker.
