Bio:
First-year starter who set career highs with 51 tackles and eight pass breakups in 2017. Started two games as a junior, making 36 tackles with two interceptions and seven PBUs. Tallied six career interceptions over four seasons at Cincinnati.
Pos:
Talented, underrated cornerback best facing the action. Quick flipping his hips to transition off the line, effectively reads and diagnoses the action and displays a closing burst. Keeps plays in front of him, displays himself as a solid athlete and works hard to make plays. Easily runs downfield with opponents.
Neg:
Struggles getting off blocks at the point of attack. Very quick out of his backpedal, which hurts his ability to explode to the ball.
Analysis:
Primarily a backup early in his Cincinnati career, Stephens watched his game take off last season and performed well during Shrine Game practices. He has limitations making plays in reverse, but his size, tenacity and head for the ball will give him an opportunity in a zone system or as a dime back used off the line of scrimmage.
