Bio:
First-year starter who led the SEC with 15 pass breakups and made 48 tackles (4.5 for loss) with three interceptions and two sacks in 2017 to earn an invitation to the Senior Bowl. Made 11 tackles with two PBUs as a junior. Did not play his first two seasons at Alabama after walking on to the team in 2014.
Pos:
Tall, thin cornerback with marginal speed. Plays tough, heads-up football and has good strength for his size. Engages receivers at the line of scrimmage, mixes it up throughout the route and gets his head back around to locate the ball. Stays on the receiver’s hip out of breaks, has a nice move to the throw and works hard to get involved in the action. Shows fluid footwork in any direction and gives effort against the run. Solid open-field tackler. Terrific on special teams and one of the first players down the field on coverage units.
Neg:
Speed is a concern, as he struggles to stay downfield with opponents and cover them on crossing patterns. Lack of size will be an issue at the next level.
Analysis:
Wallace is a terrific story and gets the most from his ability but lacks the size and speed for the next level. His ability on special teams could help him catch on as an eighth defensive back for a team that primarily plays zone coverage.
