Pos:
Slightly undersized pass rusher with an underrated game. Fires off the snap with an explosive first step, fluidly moves about the field and covers a good amount of area. Physical, plays with outstanding balance and body control and works hard. Resilient, effectively uses his hands to protect himself and get off blocks and keeps his feet moving. Gives effort against the run and shows a lot of skill as a pass rusher. Occasionally stands over tackle with moderate effectiveness.
Neg:
Lacks bulk and gets easily controlled at the point by a single blocker. Marginally productive until his senior season, the only year he was a full-time starter.
Analysis:
Phillips was not graded by scouts entering the season but now moves towards the draft as a potential late-round pick. He projects well as a pass-rushing defensive end in a four-man line and comes with upside potential.
