Bio:
One-year starter at Texas A&M who transferred to Houston and was benched three games into his junior season. Completed 80 of 105 passes for 751 yards and four touchdowns and threw four interceptions while losing two fumbles in three games in 2017. Sat out the 2016 season due to transfer rules. Completed 56.5 percent of his passes for 2,210 yards, 17 touchdowns and seven interceptions as a sophomore with the Aggies. Posted a 61.5 completion rate on 192 passes as a true freshman and threw for 1,322 yards with 16 touchdowns and seven INTs.
Pos:
Well-traveled quarterback who had a marginal college career. Patient in the pocket, goes through progressions and quickly identifies receivers. Spreads the ball around to all of his targets and stays with the action. Sells ball fakes, effectively commands the offense and displays timing on throws. Remains poised as the pocket collapses around him, puts touch on throws when necessary and throws a catchable pass. Flashes the ability to nicely place throws into receivers’ hands.
Neg:
Hasn’t shown the propensity to move his offense down the field. Could never hold down a starting job. Deep accuracy is an issue. Lacks a big-time arm and the ability to drive passes.
Analysis:
After transferring from Texas A&M to Houston, Allen was unable to retain the starting job for the Cougars and opted to enter the draft. He’s a touch passer who shows good anticipation but needs a tremendous amount of work on his game.
