Bio:
Part-time starter who made 11 starts in his final two seasons at Cal. Earned Honorable Mention All-Pac-12 in 2016, leading the team with 827 rushing yards on 152 carries and adding two touchdowns. Added 17 catches for 132 yards, ranking third in the conference with 24.3 yards per kick return and finishing second with 1,543 all-purpose yards. Rushed for 586 yards and one touchdown on 87 carries and had a career-high 189 receiving yards as a junior. Ran for 215 yards and four scores as a sophomore after leading the team in rushing in 2013 with 445 yards and four touchdowns. His 4,575 career all-purpose yards rank third in program history.
Pos:
Productive college running back who also stood out on Cal’s track and field team. Tough, consistently runs north/south and keeps the play in bounds. Strong for his size, keeps his feet moving on contact and runs with proper lean. Quick in his all-around game, makes defenders miss in the open field and loses little momentum getting through the cutback lanes. Terrific receiver out of the backfield, extending his hands and snatching the ball from the air. Runs low to the ground, gets lost behind blockers and then picks his way through the openings.
Neg:
Small, does not break many tackles and lacks strength as a blocker. Will struggle taking a beating at the next level.
Analysis:
Muhammad is a well-rounded ball carrier whose approach could help him catch on as a change-of-pace runner and third-down specialist.
