Bio:
One-year starter who made 18 career starts in three seasons. Recorded 28 tackles, one interception, one sack, two forced fumbles and 10 pass breakups as a junior. Played in seven games with five starts in 2016 and made 21 tackles before suffering a season-ending shoulder injury. Started eight games as a true freshman and posted 35 tackles, one interception and five PBUs.
Pos:
Nice-sized cornerback best facing the action. Stays with assignments in zone, effectively covers receivers on crossing patterns and competes to break up the throw. Has excellent length that he uses to defend passes. Reads the quarterback’s eyes, stays on the receiver’s hip out of breaks and has a nice burst to the throw. Gives effort against the run.
Neg:
Slow out of his transition in man coverage. Must improve the consistency of his backpedal. Has dealt with injuries and off-field issues during his time at LSU.
Analysis:
Toliver possesses the size, athleticism and upside to be a nickel corner and potential starter at the next level if he stays healthy, stays out of trouble and continues to improve his game.
