Bio:
Two-year starter who earned Second Team All-America honors and was named SEC Offensive Player of the Year as a junior. Led the conference with 285 carries and 1,391 rushing yards, caught 24 passes for 194 yards and totaled 20 touchdowns (18 rushing). Led Auburn with 11 rushing touchdowns and carried 182 times for 895 yards in 2016. Rushed for 208 yards and three TDs on 52 carries as a true freshman.
Pos:
Strong, downhill ball carrier who runs through tackles. Displays terrific short-area quickness, keeps his feet moving and pounds defenders on the inside. Displays outstanding vision, shows burst through the hole and runs with authority. Patiently waits for blocks to develop. Solid receiver out of the backfield, adjusts to errant throws and catches the ball with his hands.
Neg:
Not a quick cutback runner who can make something out of nothing. Lacks great size for the battering-ram style of play he likes. Struggles to turn the corner.
Analysis:
Johnson is a tough, instinctive running back who must improve his lateral quickness if he wants to develop into a starter at the next level. He has enough athletic ability and football skills to be a rotational ball carrier, and his pass-catching skills out of the backfield create added value.
