Bio:
Three-year starter who was named Honorable Mention All-Southland and led McNeese State with 48 catches and 625 receiving yards while catching three touchdowns in 2017. Caught 40 passes for 509 yards and five TDs as a junior. Earned Second Team All-Southland honors and led the team with 36 receptions, 668 receiving yards and six touchdown catches in 2015. Made four catches for 108 yards as a redshirt freshman before suffering a season-ending knee injury.
Pos:
Nice-sized receiver with dependable hands. Effectively uses his hands to separate from defenders, uses his size as an advantage and makes receptions in stride. Possesses soft and strong hands, gets vertical over opponents and snatches the ball from the air. Consistent hands catcher and makes receptions away from his frame. Gives effort and gets results as a blocker.
Neg:
Plays to one speed and does not get downfield separation. Rounds off routes and shows limited quickness into breaks. Average release off the line.
Analysis:
Shelby is a size prospect with solid hands and potential as a punt returner. He offers possibilities as a fifth wideout but must improve the details of his position and consistently play to a high level.
