Bio:
Three-year starter who earned First Team All-Pac-12 honors and led UCLA with 110 tackles (8.5 for loss) and added one sack in 2017. Named Second Team All-Pac-12 and made 90 tackles (8.5 for loss) with five sacks and one interception as a junior. Recorded 69 tackles (five for loss) with 0.5 sacks, one interception and tied for the team lead with two forced fumbles in 2015. Made six starts as a true freshman and posted 35 tackles.
Pos:
Explosive and instinctive linebacker who makes plays in every direction of the field. Flows well laterally, displays speed in pursuit and attacks assignments. Goes hard after the action, fires up the field to defend the run and drives through tackles. Instinctive, effective in zone coverage and displays a good head for the ball. Reads the quarterback’s eyes and possesses good hands for the interception.
Neg:
Not a secure tackler. Easily blocked from the action. Must improve his hand usage.
Analysis:
Young is a quick, athletic linebacker who’s been a consistent defender at UCLA. He has size and scheme limitations but would be very effective as a situational linebacker and special-teams player.
