Pos:
Part-time starter the past two seasons who finished with 22 receptions for 177 yards last year. Tall, athletic tight end prospect with huge upside. Gives effort as a blocker, bends his knees and gets leverage on opponents. Effectively blocks downfield. Displays good hand-eye coordination and comes away with a lot of athletic receptions. Nicely adjusts to the errant throw and flashes strong hands with the ability to pluck the ball from the air. Deceptively fast and shows the ability to split the seam.
Neg:
Lacks strength as a blocker. Struggled with assignments during Shrine Game practices when used as an in-line blocker. Was never a big part of the offense at Missouri.
Analysis:
Still very rough around the edges, Blanton is a tremendous athlete with incredible upside at the tight end position. He needs work from the ground up and must improve his strength and awareness as a blocker as well as his overall pass-catching skills, but he’s worth a last-day selection to develop on the practice squad with the hope that he'll become the second tight end on an NFL roster.
