Bio:
First-year starter who earned Second Team All-Big 12 honors and led Texas Tech with 93 receptions, 1,429 receiving yards and 10 receiving touchdowns as a junior. Named Honorable Mention All-Big 12 and started two games in 2016 while making 55 receptions for 890 yards and seven TDs. Made two starts as a true freshman and caught 11 passes for 105 yards.
Pos:
Explosive skill player who positively affects the team as a receiver and kick returner as well as running reverses. Quick off the snap, immediately gets to top speed and has a second gear with the ability to run away from opponents. Turns on his burst in a single step. Dangerous if given the slightest bit of space and can run to daylight from any point on the field. Comes back to the ball, extends his hands and offers the quarterback a target. Finds the soft zone in the defense, keeps plays in bounds after the catch and works to pick up positive yardage. Exposes himself to big hits but still comes away with difficult catches.
Neg:
Lack of height is a problem, especially when he tries to grab high throws. Often secures passes against his frame. Size is a limiting factor in battles.
Analysis:
Coutee is an underrated prospect who can impact games in a variety of ways. He’s a specialty receiver who would work best with a creative offensive coordinator.
