Bio:
Three-year starter who earned Second Team All-Pac-12 honors and tied for the team lead in forced fumbles in 2016 and 2017. Made 60 tackles (four for loss) with one sack and two forced fumbles as a senior. Posted 70 tackles (five for loss), two sacks and two forced fumbles as a junior. Recorded 77 tackles (7.5 for loss), 3.5 sacks and one forced fumble in 2015. Started four games and made 35 tackles (three for loss) with one sack as a redshirt freshman.
Pos:
One-time highly rated linebacker who watched his game significantly drop off this past year. Breaks down well, fluidly moves about the field and chases the action hard. Quick out to the sidelines in pursuit, covers a good amount of area and shows nice athleticism. Fluid, possesses a closing burst and attacks ball carriers. Fires between gaps to get behind the line of scrimmage and disrupt the action. Quick-footed in reverse, immediately alters his angle of attack and has a burst to the action out of his plant. Rarely off his feet.
Neg:
Easily slowed by blocks and gets caught up in the trash. Instincts were off in 2017, and he was very slow to find the ball carrier. Misreads the action, does not take proper angles and removes himself from the play.
Analysis:
Bierria was stamped as a first-round prospect by NFL scouts prior to his senior season but performed poorly and now moves towards the draft as a last-day pick. At the top of his game, Bierria is an explosive pursuit linebacker with the ability to defend the run and the pass. He comes with nice upside potential but must limit the mental miscues in camp this summer to make a roster.
