Bio:
Four-year starter who earned First Team All-Big 12 honors and led Iowa State with three interceptions while posting 60 tackles (three for loss) and two pass breakups as a senior. Named Second Team All-Big 12 and tied for the team lead with two interceptions, making 73 tackles and breaking up five passes in 2016. Recorded 40 tackles in six starts as a sophomore before suffering a season-ending hamstring injury. Named Big 12 Defensive Freshman of the Year after leading the Cyclones with 77 tackles and breaking up eight passes in 2014.
Pos:
Nice-sized, athletic safety who flashes a next-level game. Fluid flipping his hips, moves well laterally and effectively picks up assignments. Quick, agile and effectively uses his hands to protect himself. Takes proper angles to the action and squares and wraps up tackling.
Neg:
Seemed tentative last year and did not chase the action hard. Ducks his head tackling.
Analysis:
Cotton-Moya has shown flashes of ability the past two seasons but never elevated his game as a senior. He has the size and ability to line up in a zone system but must play at a high level on every down.
