Bio:
Two-year starter who made 33 tackles (8.5 for loss) with 2.5 sacks as a senior. Posted a career-high 43 tackles (6.5 for loss) and three sacks and was named Honorable Mention All-ACC in 2016. Made 30 tackles (6.5 for loss) and added two sacks and one forced fumble as a sophomore.
Pos:
Fast-rising defensive line prospect with an explosive nature. Fires off the snap with a tremendous first step, plays with great pad level and works his hands throughout the action. Built low to the ground and gets leverage on opponents. Strong for his size and tough to knock off his feet. Nicely redirects to the action and immediately alters his angle of attack. Fluid moving down the line to pursue the action, strong for his size and consistently penetrates gaps to make plays behind the line of scrimmage. Resilient and stays with the action. Shows suddenness.
Neg:
Must develop more moves getting off blocks. Lacks great bulk and will be handled and engulfed by larger blockers. Has little in the way of growth potential.
Analysis:
Jones was a consistent performer at North Carolina State the past two seasons and showed significant development. More of a first-step lineman, his explosion off the snap, change of direction and movement skills will get him attention as a three-technique tackle and perhaps as a two-gap defensive end.
