Bio:
Junior college transfer who was a two-year starter for the Aggies. Named Second Team All-SEC in 2016 after making 87 tackles (five for loss) with a team-high four interceptions and eight pass breakups. Posted 78 tackles (one for loss) with one interception and three pass breakups in 2015.
Pos:
Explosive safety whose game has shown consistent progress the past two years. Plays with a degree of suddenness, displays a good head for the ball and effectively reads and diagnoses the action. Quick getting to the sidelines making plays against the run or pass, displays excellent lateral range and constantly lays it on the line or sacrifices his body to make the stop. Shows good recognition in coverage, is effective making plays up the field and gives effort in all areas. Explodes to the ball out of his plant, shows speed in every direction and has a closing burst.
Neg:
Lacks classic safety size. Does not always play under control and overpursues the action. Struggles bringing down ball handlers at times and can be more of a drag-down tackler.
Analysis:
Though he lacks classic size for the position, Evans is a complete safety with potential in a variety of systems. If properly coached he will be an early starter at the next level.
