Three-year starter who missed the first three games of his senior season due to back, hamstring and quad injuries. Named First Team All-American as both a junior and a senior and leaves Michigan as its career leader in pass breakups with 45. Made 133 tackles (8.5 for loss) with six interceptions in his career.
Skilled cornerback with average size. Plays with great awareness, instincts and ball skills. Quick flipping his hips transitioning off the line, mixes it up with opponents throughout the route and displays a sense of timing. Stays on the receiver’s hip out of breaks, tracks the pass in the air and does not back down to a challenge. Has a burst to the ball out of his plant and a nice closing burst. Gives effort defending the run and wraps up tackling.
Short and overmatched by taller receivers. Works to get a jam in at the snap yet does not slow the receiver’s release off the line. Swallowed up by blocks in run defense.
Lewis rates highly in the areas of football ability and cover skills yet has size limitations. Though he may never start on Sundays, he has more than enough ability to line up in nickel packages.
