Pos:
Explosive ball carrier with a developing game and the potential to be a feature runner at the next level. Displays outstanding vision and runs with excellent lean and an aggressive style. Possesses amazingly quick feet, makes defenders miss and has them grasping at air in the open field. Explosive, displays burst through the hole and keeps his feet moving. Breaks tackles to pick up yardage off initial contact and shows some swivel in his running. Displays the speed and agility necessary to turn the perimeter. Very patient and runs with balance and body control. Waits for blocks to develop and immediately finds running lanes. Consistently runs north/south and works to pick up as much yardage as possible on every carry. Adequate pass catcher out of the backfield with the ability to snatch the ball away from his frame.
Neg:
Really not a power back who will break multiple tackles in a single run or move the pile. Average production as a ball carrier and as a pass catcher in large part due to playing on a rotational basis for Alabama.
Analysis:
Jacobs is a late bloomer of sorts but is a tremendous athlete who is developing into a terrific running back. He has the versatility to be used on all three downs and shows the vision to pick and choose his way on the inside as well as the quickness and speed to turn the perimeter. Jacobs may need time to develop his game but could eventually be one of the bigger steals from this year’s running-back class.
