Two-year starter named Second Team All-SEC in 2016 after completing 63 percent of his passes for 2,946 yards and 27 touchdowns with 12 interceptions. Added 831 yards and 12 touchdowns on the ground. Threw for 2,291 yards and 15 touchdowns with five interceptions as a junior in 2015. Made nine starts during his first two seasons at Tennessee.
Strong-armed passer with erratic accuracy. Stands strong in the pocket, throws with a fluid, over-the-top delivery and puts speed on all his throws. Fires the ball downfield, gets the ball through tight windows and easily eludes the rush. Gets outside the pocket keeping his eyes downfield and loses nothing throwing on the move. Patient, buys time for receivers and picks up yardage with his legs when necessary. Takes a big hit in order to get the throw away and leads by example.
All over the place with throws. Makes open receivers work hard to come away with the reception and outright misses open targets. Shows indecision in his game, does not see the field well and makes a lot of questionable throws. At times last season looked more effective running the ball rather than throwing it.
Dobbs is a good athlete and a high-character prospect who is much more of a thrower rather than a passer. He must significantly improve his accuracy before he’ll ever step under center in the NFL but has the underlying skills and mental attitude to warrant a late-round selection and a spot as a third quarterback on a roster.
