Pos:
Explosive pass-rushing linebacker who's developing a three-down game. Started the past three seasons at Kentucky and finished his senior season with 88 tackles, 21.5 tackles for loss and 17 sacks. Athletic, covers a lot of area on the field and makes plays in every direction. Displays the ability to rush the passer out of a three-point stance as well as standing over tackle. Explosive, gets a lot of force going up the field and attacks opposing quarterbacks with a nasty attitude. Fast, can bend off the edge and plays with both balance and body control. Rarely off his feet, breaks down well and effectively uses his hands to protect himself. Fluidly in lateral pursuit, gets to the sidelines and makes plays in the open field. Gives effort as a run defender. Effectively reads plays, quickly locates the action and displays a closing burst. Agile, shows the ability to redirect to the action and immediately alters his angle of attack. Gets depth on pass drops and displays good hands for the interception.
Neg:
Easily blocked from the action and gets held up by opposing tight ends. Not a stout tackler.
Analysis:
While many project Allen as one of the best edge rushers in this year’s draft, I see him as a phenomenal talent at linebacker in a 3-4 alignment. He's more than a guy who just rushes up the field, as he gives effort against the run, shows ability in coverage and possesses outstanding instincts. Allen needs to improve his playing strength, but in time he can be a very productive defender at the next level.
