Bio:
Three-year starter who was named Honorable Mention All-ACC despite missing the first three games of his junior season after being suspended for a violation of team policy and made 60 tackles with one interception and four pass breakups. Earned Second Team All-ACC honors and posted 65 tackles, one interception and two pass breakups in 2016 before missing the final three games with a gruesome arm injury. Made 12 starts as a true freshman and led Pitt with 108 tackles (six for loss), intercepted one pass and broke up six others while earning Defensive Rookie of the Year and Third Team All-ACC honors. Played both ways and rushed 43 times for 362 yards and three touchdowns during his career.
Pos:
Talented athlete who filled a variety of roles at Pittsburgh. Explosive, effortlessly moves around the field and closes to the play with a great burst. Displays outstanding lateral speed, quickly locates passes in the air and shows good hands for the interception. Quick to read and anticipate the action, takes proper angles and can burst out of his plant in pass coverage. Occasionally handles the ball and consistently extends to make receptions away from his frame as a pass catcher. Creates yardage as a ball carrier and shows a lot of shiftiness.
Neg:
Lack of height is an issue. Runs around blocks rather than taking them head-on. Not a strong open-field tackler.
Analysis:
Whitehead is a quick, explosive athlete with size limitations. He relies on his speed and quickness to make plays and may lack the overall physicality needed for the next level.
