Bio:
Three-year starter who made 27 tackles with one interception and two pass breakups in 2017. Earned First Team All-Big 12 honors and led the conference with 17 pass breakups while posting 49 tackles and two interceptions as a junior. Named Second Team All-Big 12 and recorded 46 tackles, five interceptions and four PBUs in 2015. Started the final four games of his true freshman season and made 32 tackles with five pass breakups.
Pos:
Nice-sized cornerback who plays smart, assignment football. Physical, works hard to get involved in the action and displays a sense of timing and anticipation. Effectively reads and diagnoses plays, takes proper angles and quickly moves up the field to defend the run. Battles receivers from the snap of the ball, stays on the opponent’s hip out of breaks and shows a quick burst out of his plant. Gives effort against the run.
Neg:
hows average deep speed despite his 40 time. Often gets beat downfield. Slow to get his head back around to track the pass in the air and does a bit of face guarding.
Analysis:
Thomas has next-level size and a physical nature and shows ball skills facing the action. He projects as a nickel back in a zone system.
