Pos:
Junior-college transfer who completed 63.6 percent of his passes for 3,918 yards and 19 TDs last season, his first as a full-time starter. Athletic quarterback with a next-level arm and a large upside. Possesses a quick release, a strong arm and puts speed on all his throws. Patient in the pocket and goes through progressions. Looks away from covered targets and commands the offense well. Generally makes good decisions with the ball and displays the ability to deliver strikes down the field. Senses the rush, easily eludes defenders to buy time and has proven to be a legitimate threat with his legs.
Neg:
Must improve his pass placement and deep accuracy. Often way off the mark and misses open receivers. Makes pass catchers work too hard to come away with the grab at times.
Analysis:
Ta'amu has the athleticism and arm strength to play at the next level but is a bit of a sandlot quarterback who needs a lot of work on his game. He's a developmental prospect who should get consideration late in the draft and at the very least be placed on a practice squad this fall.
