Bio:
One-year starter who joined Syracuse as a graduate transfer from Toledo. Made 25 tackles with three pass breakups in 2017 before missing the final four games due to a wrist injury that required surgery. Started five games for the Rockets as a junior and posted 24 tackles and four PBUs. Missed the entire 2015 season with an ACL injury and received a medical redshirt. Started eight games as a sophomore, made 26 tackles (four for loss) and broke up four passes while missing three games due to injury.
Pos:
Versatile defensive back best facing the action. Keeps the play in front of him, effectively reads and diagnoses the action and flies to the ball. Plays big football, aggressively goes after opponents and shows a closing burst. Works well with cornerbacks to bracket receivers over the middle of the field and has a good burst to the ball. Effectively picks up coverage assignments and does a solid job over the slot receiver.
Neg:
Plays to one speed with average quickness. Struggles making plays in reverse.
Analysis:
Martin was ignored by scouts entering the season despite his size and productive play. He offers possibilities as a traditional strong safety or in a zone system and should only get better with more experience.
