Bio:
Three-year starter who played mostly nickel back as a junior and senior. Recorded 59 tackles (5.5 for loss) and seven pass breakups in 2016. Made a team-high 118 tackles (three for loss) with two interceptions, two forced fumbles and two pass breakups in 2015. Started all 13 games at safety in 2014, leading Auburn with 93 tackles (2.5 for loss) and making three interceptions. Changed positions from running back to cornerback in fall camp of his freshman season.
Pos:
Solid safety with a well-rounded game. Instinctive, displays good awareness and keeps the action in front of him. Quick to read and diagnose, forceful up the field on the blitz or against the run and wraps up tackling. Possesses an explosive closing burst, sells out to make plays and defeats blocks getting to the action. Gets outside the numbers in coverage, plays faster than his 40 time and flashes ball skills.
Neg:
Average size. Does not display a great burst to the ball out of his plant. Did not intercept a pass last season.
Analysis:
Ford is an athletic safety who plays big and fast against the run or pass. Though he needs to improve his play in coverage, he offers possibilities as a starter in a system where he consistently faces the action.
