Bio:
First-year starter who led Tennessee with 189 carries, 778 rushing yards and nine rushing touchdowns and caught 37 passes for 299 yards as a junior. Started one game and rushed 98 times for 630 yards and five TDs in 2016. Carried 40 times for 165 yards and one score as a true freshman.
Pos:
Nice-sized skill player who’s effective as both a ball carrier and a pass catcher out of the backfield. Resilient, consistently runs north and south and keeps his feet moving. Finds running lanes, turns upfield and picks up yardage off initial contact. Outstanding pass catcher out of the backfield who extends his hands to snatch passes from the air. Consistent hands catcher.
Neg:
Not a creative ball carrier who makes something out of nothing. Lacks the speed to turn the perimeter or run to daylight.
Analysis:
Kelly is a solid back with nice size and is effective as a ball carrier and receiver out of the backfield. He lacks elite speed but could be productive in a system that uses him as a rotational ball carrier.
