Two-year starter who earned First Team All-Pac-12 honors in 2016 with 62 tackles (14 for loss) and a career-high 10 sacks. Led Colorado with six sacks as a junior in a part-time role. Started nine games in 2014 and had a team-high 11 hurries to go with 2.5 sacks.
Underrated defensive front-seven player with natural pass-rushing skills. Breaks down well, fluidly moves in every direction of the field and shows quickness and speed pursuing the action. Uses his hands well, has a variety of moves getting off blocks and works to make positive plays. Has a closing burst, easily redirects to ball carriers and wraps up tackling. Fast off the edge, displays good change of direction and chases down ball handlers. Shows skill and ability playing in space.
Thin, may struggle keeping weight on and lacks pure playing strength. Struggles against the run. Easily blocked from the action and consistently gets caught up in the trash.
Gilbert is a long, athletic defensive front-seven player that makes an impact rushing the passer and can also play in space. He comes with a nice degree of upside and potential but must get bigger and improve his playing strength to consistently see action on Sundays.
