Bio:
Junior college transfer who started one season at Virginia Tech after winning the starting quarterback job over the summer. Completed 63.5 percent of his passes and threw for 3,546 yards and 29 touchdowns with eight interceptions. Added 846 yards and 12 scores on the ground.
Pos:
Junior college transfer who surprised everyone by entering the draft. Athletic, sized well and possesses an NFL arm. Sells the ball fakes, stands strong in the pocket and withstands the rush. Effective when he’s patient and poised, has a big-time arm and fires the ball into targets. Keeps his eyes downfield, throws with an over-the-top delivery and to his credit does not toss the errant pass into coverage. Powerful ball carrier with the ability to break tackles when he takes off up the field.
Neg:
Wild and all over the place with his throws. Stares down the primary target and rarely moves his head. Puts the ball up for grabs.
Analysis:
Evans has the raw talent to play the next level but is rough around the edges and needs a lot of work on his game. His combination of size, athleticism and arm strength is worth a spot on the practice squad for future development.
