Bio:
Two-year starter who was named Second Team All-Mountain West in both of those seasons. Led the conference in rushing touchdowns twice, scoring 23 in 2016 and 20 in 2015. Finishing third in the Mountain West with 1,709 yards on 314 carries and added 37 catches for 474 yards and four scores as a junior. Rushed 240 times for 1,337 yards and caught 51 passes for 460 yards and six touchdowns as a sophomore. Totaled 314 yards and two TDs as a true freshman.
Pos:
Versatile running back effective as a ball carrier and pass catcher out of the backfield. Displays vision, bounces around tackles into the clearing and is smooth getting through the cutback lanes. Resilient, keeps his feet moving and runs with excellent balance. Makes defenders miss in the open field, creates his own yardage and breaks tackles picking up yardage off initial contact. Possesses a burst through the hole, effectively follows blocks and uses an effective straight arm to keep runs alive. Terrific pass catcher out of the backfield who poses a legitimate downfield threat. Gets a pad on defenders blocking and knocks them from their angles of attack.
Neg:
One-speed ball carrier who cannot beat defenders into the open field. Must significantly improve his ball security. Lacks true perimeter speed.
Analysis:
McNichols was a productive college player and will help the team carrying the ball, as a pass catcher out of the backfield or occasionally lined up in the slot. He’s unlikely to ever develop into a feature runner but should be very productive as a third-down back and situational runner.
