Bio:
Three-year starter who was named Honorable Mention All-Big Ten and led Purdue with 97 tackles (11.5 for loss) in 2017, adding one sack, one interception, two forced fumble and three pass breakups. Started eight games and made 50 tackles (seven for loss) as a junior despite missing time with an ankle injury. Recorded 49 tackles (7.5 for loss) over five games in 2015 before tearing his left ACL and undergoing season-ending surgery. Started 12 games as a true freshman and made 76 tackles (3.5 for loss) with one interception.
Pos:
Tough, hard-working, run-defending linebacker best playing downhill. Instinctive, plays heads-up football and fires up the field to fill gaps in run defense. Immediately locates the ball, effectively uses his hands to protect himself and defeats blocks on his way to the action. Displays solid short-area quickness, can change direction and chases the action hard. Shows skill in zone coverage.
Neg:
Shows some stiffness in his game, struggles to redirect and really doesn’t cover a lot of area on the field. Exploited in man-coverage situations.
Analysis:
Bentley is a well-built inside linebacker prospect with the size and tenacity to be a first and second-down player at the next level.
