Bio:
Graduate transfer from Sam Houston State who threw 75 passes as a backup quarterback with UTSA, throwing for 564 yards and four touchdowns with one interception. Three-year starter with the Bearkats who was named Southland Conference Offensive Player of the Year in 2015 after leading the conference in passing yards (2,216) and touchdown passes (18).
Pos:
Former small-school quarterback with a nice feel for the position. Sells ball fakes, knows where his receivers are on the field and finds the open wideout. Puts touch on throws when necessary. Effectively commands and controls the offense.
Neg:
Struggles under the rush. Must improve his pass placement, as he’s slightly off the mark and has receivers adjusting backwards to grab passes.
Analysis:
Johnson offers solid arm strength and quarterback intangibles but in the end may be nothing more than a camp body.
