Bio:
First-year starter who led Miami with 85 tackles and broke up three passes. Made one start as a junior in 2015, racking up 48 tackles and one interception. Started two games as a sophomore, posting 26 tackles and an interception.
Pos:
Strong, sturdy safety with poor speed. Quick up the field, sells out defending the run and drives through tackles. Keeps the action in front of him, wraps up ball handlers and a secure open field tackler. Displays a sense of timing and anticipation of pass defenses, gets vertical then knocks the ball away.
Neg:
Possesses average ball skills. Lacks long speed, does a lot of chasing down the field and not quick to close. Lacks a quick change of direction. Exploited throughout Shrine Game practices.
Analysis:
Carter is a tough, hard-hitting safety with limited speed. He could lineup as a conventional strong safety and plays with a special-teams mentality.
