Bio:
Three-year starter who had his senior season cut short due to a season-ending shoulder injury in October. Led Tennessee with 14 tackles for loss as a junior in 2015, making 105 tackles with five sacks. Tied for first on the team with 101 tackles in 2014, including 11 for loss, and added two sacks.
Pos:
Slightly undersized linebacker coming off season-ending shoulder surgery. Athletic, flows well laterally and displays speed in pursuit. Physical, aggressive and works to get involved in the action. Breaks down well, uses his hands to protect himself and nicely redirects to the ball carrier. Has a good head for the ball in run defense, shows a burst to the action and displays explosiveness. Remains disciplined with cover assignments and gets depth on pass drops.
Neg:
Occasionally plays out of control and misses tackles. Not a big linebacker, struggles taking on blocks and gets smothered at the point. Lacks skill in coverage for a smaller and faster linebacker.
Analysis:
Reeves-Maybin was highly rated coming into the season but saw his campaign cut short after four games with a shoulder injury. He’s a run-and-chase/pursuit linebacker who is best against the run and will have a career as a backup at the next level if his shoulder is healthy.
