Bio:
Two-year starter named First Team All-Big Ten as a senior after earning Honorable Mention All-Big Ten as a junior. Made 55 tackles (10 for loss) with 7.5 sacks in his final season after recording 45 tackles (5.5 for loss) and 3.5 sacks as a junior.
Pos:
Explosive and athletic defensive line prospect with potential in a variety of systems. Quick, fires off the snap with a great first step and plays with outstanding pad level. Keeps his knees bent, works his hands and moves well to every area of the field. Agile, resilient and nimble. Tremendous hand technician, easily alters his angle of attack and nicely redirects to the action.
Neg:
Does not play like a 300-pound defender. Average strength at the point and controlled by a single blocker or easily disrupted from the action. Should be a better pass rusher then the stats show.
Analysis:
Johnson has been a consistent defensive tackle the past two seasons yet never truly took his game to the next level. During much of the Senior Bowl he showed power as well as strength and the arrow is starting to point North. Johnson has starting potential as a conventional defensive tackle and could lineup in certain three-man fronts if he pulls the pieces together.
