Bio:
Three-year starter who led Western Illinois in tackles in each of those seasons and earned First Team All-MVC honors in 2016 and 2017. Named First Team FCS All-America and led the MVC with 162 tackles while pacing Western Illinois with 13 tackles for loss and adding 1.5 sacks, two forced fumbles and four pass breakups as a senior. Led the team with 8.5 tackles for loss and four sacks and made 135 tackles as a junior. Earned Second Team All-MVC honors and tied for the team lead with 10.5 tackles for loss while recording 144 tackles, two interceptions and two forced fumbles in 2015. Made 29 tackles and forced one fumble as a redshirt freshman.
Pos:
Tough run-defending linebacker best as a two-down player. Breaks down well, remains disciplined with assignments and works hard to get involved in the action. Effectively works his hands to protect himself, drives through tackles and wraps up at the point. Resilient, stays with the action and flashes ability in zone coverage.
Neg:
Possesses a marginal burst and limited playing speed. Best in the box and ineffective in reverse. Not a smooth linebacker and marginally effective in pursuit.
Analysis:
Taylor was a hard-working small-school linebacker and comes with limited next-level potential. He plays with a special-teams mentality, which is the only way he’ll make it at the next level.
