Pos:
Athletic pass catcher who plays tight end like a big receiver. Fluid releasing off the line, fast and streaks downfield behind the linebackers. Displays solid quickness into routes, stays low on exit and extends his hands to offer the quarterback a target. Consistently makes the reception away from his frame, easily adjusts to the errant throw and snatches the ball out of the air. Wins out in battles, competes to come away with the contested grab and makes a lot of athletic receptions. Blocks with leverage, stays square and shows ability as a position blocker.
Neg:
Not a real stout tight end. Average strength as a blocker.
Analysis:
After being a backup tight end 2017, Smith turned in a career season in 2018 and now moves towards the draft as one of the best prospects at the position. He looks like a big possession receiver on the field with his ability to get downfield and come away with all types of receptions. Smith must improve his strength as a blocker but nicely projects as a move tight end at the next level.
