Bio:
First-year starter named First Team All-AAC in 2016 after finishing second in the conference with five interceptions, making 54 tackles (2.5 for loss) and breaking up 10 passes. Suffered a season-ending ACL injury early in his sophomore season and received a medical hardship. Started three games as a true freshman and tallied 48 tackles with three interceptions.
Pos:
Opportunistic cornerback with terrific size. Fluid flipping his hips in transition off the line, mixes it up with opponents throughout the action and plays physical football. Fights hard to break up throws, physically beats down larger receivers and plays big football. Shows ability in zone, reading the quarterback’s eyes then making his move to the pass. Has excellent length, shows quickness up the field defending screen passes or the run and throws his body around the field to make the stop.
Neg:
Stiff and mechanical pedaling in reverse. Displays an average burst to the ball out of his plant. Tends to do a bit of face-guarding and is slow getting his head back around at times. Has an injury history.
Analysis:
Howard possesses next-level size and a physical nature to his game but has poor speed and a thin body of work. He’s a bit limited in the types of schemes he can play in and must work on his fundamentals before he’ll be NFL-ready.
