Bio:
First-year starter who made 53 tackles with two interceptions and two pass breakups in 13 games as a senior before suffering a season-ending knee injury. Recorded 20 tackles, one forced fumble and five PBUs in 2016.
Pos:
Hard-working safety with average next-level potential. Stays with coverage assignments, moves well laterally outside the numbers and gives effort. Locates the ball in the air, displays outstanding timing and anticipation of pass defenses and works to knock the ball away. Works well with cornerbacks and shows solid ball skills.
Neg:
Slow out of his transition over the slot receiver. Not a smooth or fluid defensive back and lacks an explosive closing burst. Not a strong open-field tackler. Suffered a knee injury late last season.
Analysis:
Jones was a hard-working safety who got the most from his ability but lacks the size and speed for the next level. If healthy, he has a chance to make a roster if he plays well on special teams.
