Two-year starter who transferred from Notre Dame after a redshirt season. Played in seven games in 2016, throwing for 804 yards and six touchdowns. Completed 65.2 percent of his passes as a junior and threw for 2,777 yards and 19 touchdowns with 11 interceptions. Accumulated 3,254 yards and 31 touchdowns in 2014 while being named Honorable Mention All-AAC, completing 59.7 percent of his pass with 13 interceptions.
Big-armed quarterback with nice size whose career has been in a tailspin the past two seasons. Patient in the pocket, moderately elusive and to his credit goes to the safety valve or check-down receiver if nothing else is available. Possesses a big-time arm, can throw the deep route and puts velocity on all his throws. Tough and stands in the pocket taking hits rather than forcing throws.
Does not consistently release the ball with proper footwork or mechanics. Possesses a slow delivery and has receivers waiting on the ball. Career has gone from bad to worse since 2014.
Kiel possesses the size and arm strength to play at the next level but has inconsistencies in his mechanics, accuracy and oftentimes decision-making. He’s a developmental prospect who may be worth keeping on a practice squad if he shows any sort of consistency this summer.
